About KidneyMate

Built slowly.
On purpose.

KidneyMate did not begin as a startup pitch. It began as a research question: how can the daily work of CKD become visible to a care team without removing human judgement?

Where this came from

A missing connection, not another tracker.

The work began at a university in regional Victoria, studying patient-generated health data: records people keep outside the clinic. The evidence showed many fragmented tools, but no responsible pathway joining the daily record to accountable care.

So the first thing built was the three-layer framework: patient context and records, transparent analysis, then clinician review.

Shaped in conversation

Enthusiasm helped. Scepticism helped just as much.

Around 50 conversations with patients, carers, GPs, specialists, nurses, researchers and clinic staff have shaped the prototype and challenged the assumptions underneath it.

The team is small and multidisciplinary, spanning health informatics research, software engineering, and clinical and data advisory.

Why “Mate”

A mate shows up on the ordinary days.

Living with kidney disease comes with experts. What it rarely comes with is steady everyday support for the hours between them.

KidneyMate is not another authority. It is intended as a calm companion that keeps the load organised and helps the right people see what matters.

The line that does not move

KidneyMate prepares information.
People make decisions.

We design for tired people first, state the product stage honestly, keep the patient in control and put evidence before outcome claims.

Designed in the details

The work behind
the calm.

01

Steady beats flashy

A daily tool has to be calm, fast and kind enough to earn repeat use.

02

Honesty about stage

A working prototype is moving toward pilots and validation. It is not pretending to be finished.

03

Your story is yours

The person living with CKD owns the record and chooses what is shared.

04

Evidence before claims

The framework came before marketing; validation comes before promised outcomes.
